The Future Internet: Policy Challenges in Creating  European-scale Markets

1st Future Internet PPP workshop on Policy Challenges
Oganized by the FI-PPP Working Group on Policy & Regulation

The Future Internet PPP programme (www.fi-ppp.eu) will hold an interactive workshop to discuss policy and regulatory challenges in relation to the Future Internet and their implications for the Future Internet PPP programme. The workshop will cover three major themes:

  1. Markets for smart infrastructures: emerging frameworks for policy and regulatory conditions such as interoperability, openness, standards, security and privacy;
  2. Policy and regulatory issues affecting the success of Future Internet enabled networked applications;
  3. Ensuring the impact of FI-PPP: shaping SME involvement, entrepreneurship and incubation activities.

Policy and regulatory issues emerging in the current FI-PPP programme will be discussed based on project cases. Invited experts will present their views, provide inputs and discuss with FI-PPP projects. This way, the FI-PPP programme aims to contribute to the ongoing policy debates at European and national levels by bringing together stakeholders involved in the emerging Future Internet Ecosystem to identify the policy challenges and discuss short to mid-term strategies for exploiting the opportunities of the Future Internet envisaged by FI-PPP. Input to the workshop will be an FI-PPP working paper identifying policy and regulatory issues of the Future Internet and outlining policy and regulatory challenges identified within FI-PPP projects. The Working Paper also presents an agenda for phase 2 and 3 of the FI-PPP.

The preliminary workshop programme can be downloaded here.
